Change Your WordPress Domain

For WordPress installed in Standard Mode using 1&1 Click & Build.

Follow the steps below in order to change the URL to ensure that your WordPress site works with the desired domain.

Changing your domain name is a common procedure when building a website. This article details the steps involved in changing your domain name in the WordPress click and build version.

Step 1
Log in to your WordPress website as the administrator (http://yourdomain.com/wp-login) and select Settings.

Enter the new domain into the WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) fields. Then, scroll down and click the Save Changes button.

Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.

Click 1&1 App Center in the left side menu.

Click WordPress in 1&1 App Center in the left side menu.

Click the Change domain button.

Select the domain to assign to your WordPress website.

Click Save.

Optionally, you can choose to Keep the existing connection to the current domain, or click the switch to disconnect the domain.

You will see a message confirming that the domain connection is in progress. After a few minutes, you should visit your website at the new domain and try to log in to make sure the connection was successful.

Additional Information:

If your site works using your new domain but your content still links to your old domain, there are several ways of connecting your content to your new domain:

  • Automatic Domain Changer
    The Automatic Domain Changer plug in uses a simple interface to change the domain. Please note that it does collect usage information.
  • Database search and replace script
    Upload the database search and replace script with FTP to a subfolder of your site. Then open the script in the browser by going to the location.
  • WP-CLI
    If you prefer using command lines, log in with SSH to the webserver and go to the location of your installation. After that use the following command:
    wp search-replace http://old-domain.com http://new-domain.com
