Connect to Your Webspace via FTP Using FileZilla

For webhosting and server packages.

Follow the steps below to connect to your shared hosting webspace (or storage space) via SFTP, FTPS, or FTP(insecure).

Before you begin, you will need to download FileZilla and install it.

FileZilla is a free FTP program (also called an FTP client) that allows you to upload, download and change permissions of files you keep in the webspace of your 1&1 package. FTP is insecure in that it transmits your password in plain text. The good news is that FileZilla supports FTPS and SFTP and you can use these secure versions of FTP to transfer your files.

The reference images provided reflect FileZilla 3.5.2 on a Windows operating system.

Step 1
Launch the FileZilla program, either from the Start Menu, Finder, your desktop, or however you normally launch programs. Once the program is open, click File > Site Manage. Select Site Manage
Select Site Manage
Step 2
We will save the FTP information in FileZilla for your website so that you do not have to enter all the FTP info every time you want to connect. Click the New Site button. Click New Site
Click New Site
Step 3
Type a name for the FileZilla "site" such as your domain name. This helps you to know which site you are connecting to in the future, should you add other FTP sites. Name the site
