Use a Domain with Squarespace.com

You have a website with squarespace.com and would like to use this website with your domain registered at 1&1? This article will show you how.

Before you can use your domain with Squarespace, you have to create a connection to this domain in the Squarespace control panel. You then have to create a subdomain (required for verification purposes) and edit the DNS settings so that your domain is rerouted to the Squarespace web server.

First, set up the domain connection for your website with Squarespace.

The first step is to configure the website you created at Squarespace.com so that it can be used with your domain registered with 1&1:

Step 1
Log in to your Squarespace website and click Settings > Domains in the menu.
Step 2
Enter the name of your domain registered with 1&1 and click Continue.
Step 3
Click Connect a third part domain.
Step 4
Choose 1&1 as the provider and click Connect Domain.

You will now see an overview of the DNS settings to be changed. It is a good idea to leave this open so that you can easily copy and paste the information later in these steps.

Next, create a CNAME with 1&1 for verification.

To identify yourself to Squarespace as the authorized domain administrator, you must create an alias pointing to verifysquarespace.com. To do this, you must create a subdomain with an appropriate CNAME record for your 1&1 hosting domain:

Step 1
Log in to your 1&1 Control Panel and select the relevant package.
Step 2
Click Domain Center.
