Red "(DNS)" Next to a Domain Name

For domains that have had custom settings configured for either the IP Address (A record), mail servers (MX Record), CNAME Record or separate DNS Servers, a red (DNS) is displayed after the domain name. This red (DNS) signifies that part or all of the DNS settings have been changed from the standard configuration. This is not necessarily bad, but serves as a reminder that not all services (e.g. mail, hosting, etc.) for the domain are being managed with 1&1 and may be pointing to or utilizing third-party services.

To find out more about what has settings have been changed, follow the next steps.

Step 1
Log in to the 1&1 Control Panel using your Customer ID OR domain name and your password.

If you have only one package, you will land on the Administration page. If you have more than one package, select the package in question to reach its Administration page.


Step 2
Click the Manage domains link from the Domains panel.

Check the box next to a domain with the red (DNS) after the domain name and click the DNS button. Select a domain and select Show DNS Settings

On this page you will see that the default DNS settings have been modified and will show which settings have been changed. View the modified DNS settings

It is possible to reset the DNS settings so that the domain uses the standard configuration and all of 1&1 services by clicking the Reset button on the last step of the above guide.
